Gibraltar cable car — tips and tickets

Cable car climbing the Rock of Gibraltar

The cable car climbs from the base station near Alameda Gardens to the top of the Rock in about six minutes, with stunning views over the city, the bay and the strait.

Tickets can be bought on the day, but in summer and on cruise days queues build quickly. Buying online or first thing in the morning saves a lot of waiting.

On windy days — especially when the Levante is blowing — the cable car may close at short notice. Always check the operating status before paying for a combined ticket.

Combined tickets with the Upper Rock Nature Reserve usually offer the best value, covering St Michael's Cave, the Apes' Den, the Siege Tunnels and the Skywalk.

Check official information before travelling.

Always check official Gibraltar and border information before travelling, especially on busy weekends, holidays or during special events.
