Most international visitors reach Gibraltar through Málaga (about 130 km, roughly 1h45–2h30 by road) or Seville (about 200 km, around 2h30–3h30). Both connect to La Línea de la Concepción, right next to the border.
By car: the AP-7 toll motorway from Málaga and the A-381 from Seville are the usual routes. Drive to La Línea, park there, and cross the border on foot — it is almost always faster than driving across, and avoids Gibraltar's limited parking.
By bus: regular coach services connect Málaga, Marbella, Estepona and Algeciras to La Línea bus station, a short walk from the border. From Seville, you usually change at Algeciras. Check the live timetable with the operator before travelling.
By train: there is no direct train to Gibraltar or La Línea. The closest mainline station is San Roque–La Línea; from there, a short taxi or local bus reaches the border. From Seville or Málaga, plan a combined train + bus journey.
From Málaga Airport, many visitors hire a car for the day or pre-book a shared transfer to La Línea. Allow extra time on summer weekends and during cruise season.
Once at La Línea, follow signs to the frontier ("La Verja"). Pedestrian crossing is usually 5–20 minutes; the vehicle queue can be much longer. Inside Gibraltar, Main Street, Casemates Square and the Cable Car base are all within walking distance.
