Crossing to Gibraltar on foot from La Línea

Walking route from the border to Casemates Square

Walking is the most popular way to enter Gibraltar from La Línea. It avoids car queues, parking inside the territory, and gets you sightseeing within minutes.

From the Spanish side, head to the border gate. After passport or ID check you cross the airport runway on foot — follow the traffic signals, which pause crossings when a plane is landing or taking off.

From the runway, signposts lead you towards Casemates Square, the natural entrance to the old town. Allow roughly 20–30 minutes from the gate to Casemates depending on pace and queues.

Wear comfortable shoes. Summers are hot — carry water and a hat. Strollers are fine on the main route; wheelchair users should check accessible paths in advance.

With kids or older visitors, plan short stops along the way and consider a taxi or local bus from Market Place if energy runs low.

From Casemates you can stroll Main Street, take the Cable Car up the Rock, or follow the Border to Rock walking route for a guided plan.
